When children are just beginning to learn about, enjoy and appreciate music they don't need to be in a formal learning environment.  Children often feel less inhibited outdoors, and when music happens outdoors in whatever form, it seems bigger, brighter and just a bit different from inside. The acoustics are different of course but so is the feel of playing music outside.
