What is a resonating chamber & what are they made of?

Also known as a resonation chamber, a resonating chamber is a hollow chamber whose dimensions allow the resonant oscillation of acoustic waves. Traditionally, a resonating chamber has interior surfaces which reflect an acoustic wave. When a wave enters the chamber, it will bounce back and forth within the chamber with low loss. As more wave energy enters the chamber, it combines with and reinforces the standing wave, increasing its intensity (volume).

The freenotes Amadinda is a fine example of one of our outdoor musical instruments which has resonating chambers. Because of the large chambers on this instrument, it has a beautiful deep and rich musical tone.

Resonation chambers are made from impact resistant ABS tubing because of its high mechanical strength and UV stability.
