Outdoor Xylophone: Amadinda Xylophone

Amadinda Outdoor Xylophone

This instrument originates from Uganda and the word Amadinda translates to ‘Big Keys’ – a perfect description!  This is a substantial outdoor musical instrument that produces a strong, deep, resonant sound.  Perfect as school playground equipment and equally effective as an outdoor music therapy instrument, the Amadinda is tuned to C major pentatonic scale making it very easy and enjoyable to play.

The Amadinda Outdoor Xylophone is inspired by a traditional pentatonic xylophone originating in Uganda, the name is derived from Ama (big) and Dinda (keys). The Amadinda Outdoor Xylophone is tuned to c major in the pentatonic scale and has large resonating chambers that give a deep and rich tone.

The name for the instrument, Amadinda, is given by to us by the Ganda people of central Uganda. It  The bars of this Outdoor Musical Instrument are made of weather resistant ipe, from sustainable sources, which performs well in an outdoor setting and stands up to hard use. The wood is highly weather resistant and sealed to increase its longevity outdoors.  The overall length of the Amadinda Outdoor Xylophone is five feet.


In common with other Freenotes products, the Amadinda has been inspected by The Play Inspection Company who have confirmed its compliance with EN1176.   All Amadinda Outdoor Xylophones are supplied with full installation and maintenance instructions.
